Catching Up

Well, it has been a couple months since our last update, and I have sorely neglected both of our fans long enough. Hopefully we can catch you up.

In early November, we celebrated my niece Carinne’s birthday, by stalking her at her football game. You see, Carinne plays trombone in the Gettysburg College band, so we went to see her at the game and embarrassed her with Birthday screams at every break in the cheering. We then went back to our place in Hanover, a mere 10 miles away where we proceeded to drink many wines and stay toasty by the chiminea, while we opened her gifts. As we hosted the celebration, we also hosted the millions of family members who stayed at the house. Our place began to look like a hostile for weary travelers.

Mid November allowed me the opportunity to spend a couple hours at Lexy's school observing her in class. What a treat this was. She was very attentive and eager to learn. I can only hope this is an everyday occurrence and not only because I was there, because trying to get her to do schoolwork at home is like trying to teach a puppy to cross-stitch. I did enjoy gym class, though, because the teacher encouraged me to join in. We got to kick soccer balls into a net from way across the gym. All the kids were cheering me on. Just like when I was 8, gym class was my favorite class.

The weekend before Thanksgiving we put up our Xmas decorations out of boredom. I have to say we were looking pretty good until the Griswolds put up their lights the following weekend. Inside, however, the tree looked beautiful in our dining room picture window.

Thanksgiving rolled around and we headed to Pittsburgh. We enjoyed some snow, some turkey, some wine and some cigars, but no Turkey Bowl. For the second time in 19 years, the fierce Turkey Bowl competitors began to realize their mortality and as a majority sat out the grueling 2 hours flag football game that had become a November tradition. Of course the snow covered ground and 30 degree temps were no motivation, either. I still got to see some of the gang, though. I saw the Maletta’s and one of my oldest friend Gloey and his wife and little girl. What a doll!

While Tracy and I enjoyed Thanksgiving in Pittsburgh, Lexy spent the holiday with her dad in Atlanta. We were all so very proud of Tracy as, for the first time ever, she let her little princess fly on a plane by herself down to Atlanta. $500 airfares and limited time availability led us to make this life-altering decision. Tracy took it like a champ…and Lexy didn’t do so bad either.

We drove Carinne back to Gettysburg on the way home. Sunday on the PA Turnpike is no treat, let me tell ya. A four hour trip took us about seven…ugh.

At some point during the weekend, I lost my camera…hence the photos will sadly be limited on the site until we get a new camera.

Early December brought Hanover our first Pennsylvania snow…about 8 inches of it. Of course, Lexy was excited because school was cancelled. And I was so much MORE excited because I got to shovel snow again…big yips!

On the 9th, we went back to Maryland for a Holiday party at the Hodges. Lexy got to play with her friend Kelsey, Skylar got to play with Amber and Tracy and I got to play with other adults again, a pastime we sorely missed. After enjoying the holiday cheer, the girls went off to the bar, while the boys stayed behind and played some poker. We stayed the night and headed home the next morn. A good time was had by all.

The following weekend, we headed to Tennessee to see Tracy’s family for the holidays. A long 8 hour drive which we dread found us in Sevierville around Midnight, followed by a morning of the kids opening their Xmas gifts, Dinner at the Cracker Barrel and a few hours of freezing our buns off at Dollywood. The lights in the park were pretty, but I don’t know how the kids could stand riding the rides in the bitter cold…ah to be young again and not care about your health.
